Alejandro Maass holds a PhD in Pure Mathematics from the Université d’Aix-Marseille II, France (1994) and a degree in Mathematical Engineering from the University of Chile (1990), where he is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Mathematical Engineering.
He is also a principal investigator at the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM), director of International Relations, and coordinator of the applied research line on Climate and Biodiversity at the same center. Prof. Maass is also an associate researcher at the Millennium Institute for Genome Regulation (CRG).
Among the awards and recognitions received by Prof. Maass are: Knight of the National Order of Merit of France (2007); Fellow of the Chilean Academy of Engineering (2009); Mathematical Union of Latin America and the Caribbean (UMALCA) Award (2009); Corresponding Member of the Chilean Academy of Sciences (2017); CNRS Fellow-Ambassadeur (2023).
He was recently awarded the Chilean National Prize for Exact Sciences (2025).
His main research interests are in ergodic theory and systems biology.
