Inspired by the remarkable success of the UTokyo Forum 2013 held in Santiago and Sao Paulo (Nov 2013), the First Chile-Japan Academic Forum at UTokyo was held a year later in Tokyo (6-9 Oct 2014). The Second Chile-Japan Academic Forum at Patagonia, Chile (7-10 Nov 2016) and the Third Chile-Japan Academic Forum in Nikko, Japan (25-28 Sep 2018) were held as a follow-up activity to further encourage the strong research collaboration long taking place between Chile and Japan in different areas of knowledge. The forum was proposed as a biannual activity taking place alternatively in Chile and Japan. However, due to the pandemic, the Fourth Chile-Japan Academic Forum was postponed and it will now be held in Región de Los Lagos, Chile (28 Nov – 2 Dec 2022).

The forum organization is led by the main universities of Chile and Japan, University of Chile (UChile), Catholic University of Chile (UC), University of Concepción (UdeC), University of Los Lagos (ULagos), in collaboration with the University of Tokyo (UTokyo). The goal of the Forum is to establish an open academic platform with the participation of third-party collaborators from other universities and research centers around the world with strong regional ties to Asia and Latin America.
