Advanced Tools Applied to Frontier Astronomy, BioMedicine and Massive Data-driven Sciences<\/h2>\n

\"pucon_square_logo01\"During the last decades new astronomical facilities have populated the north of Chile, notably in Cerro Pach\u00f3n (Gemini-South, SOAR), Cerro Paranal (VLT, VISTA, VST) and recently the Chajnantor plateau (Atacama Large Millimeter Array, ALMA). Together with the extensive existing facilities (e.g. Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatories, La Silla Observatory, Las Campanas Observatory), these have created a unique astronomy infrastructure that has triggered the planning and construction of a wide range of major next-generation optical and radio astronomy facilities.\u00a0 Prominent among these latest projects are ALMA, but also DECam (Dark Energy Camera), TAO (University of Tokyo Atacama Observatory), KMTnet (Korean Microlensing Telescope network), LSST (Large Synoptic Survey Telescope), GMT (Giant Magellan Telescope) and the E-ELT (European Extremely Large Telescope), as well as a collection of smaller robotic telescopes in different locations and several radio observatories and cosmic microwave background experiments in the Chajnantor plateau, which will bring new frontier of technology requirements for massive data flow management. In fact, the sensing, transmission, process, analysis, storage and archiving of tera- and peta-range volumes of data that these new facilities will need, require a robust set of interdisciplinary skills and this is the right moment to develop them.<\/p>\n

Within this context, we are currently organizing the fourth version of a special topical meeting in southern Chile\u2019s lake district, the CMM Puc\u00f3n Symposium (this year to be hosted in Puerto Varas, Chile), that will offer a unique opportunity to address and discuss many of the relevant scientific, technical and infrastructure issues behind the emerging era of Big Data. Our intention is to bring together people from various engineering, technical and scientific disciplines from different R&D organizations with an established tradition of international collaboration, in a special academic and scenic environment, where we can analyze in depth their current activities and discuss in detail possible future ones.<\/p>\n

We hope that you can accept our invitation to participate in the Fourth CMM Puc\u00f3n Symposium 2015, a workshop conference focused on the advanced mathematical and computational tools as well as the engineering and technological aspects involved in frontier astronomy, biomedicine and other massive data-driven sciences, including ultra-high speed networking, e-science\/grids\/high performance computing, data storage\/processing\/ archiving, data visualization, data mining and machine learning, time series and automatic classification, virtual observatories, robotic and remote astronomy, optimal scheduling and real-time astronomy.<\/p>\n
