\"Tom\u00e1sTom\u00e1s Lang (1938\u20132018) was a prominent engineer and scholar in computer arithmetic and digital architecture. Born in Czechoslovakia, he grew up in Chile after his family fled there in 1939. He earned his Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Chile (1965), an MS from UC Berkeley (1966), and a PhD from Stanford University (1974). He held faculty positions at UCLA, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia\u2014where he founded the Department of Computer Architecture\u2014and the University of California, Irvine.<\/p>\n

His research focused on high-speed and low-power numerical processors and multiprocessors, and he authored several influential textbooks and numerous scholarly publications. Lang is remembered as a rigorous and principled academic whose legacy endures in the global computing community.<\/p>\n

Tom\u00e1s Lang (1938-2018) fue un destacado ingeniero y acad\u00e9mico especializado en aritm\u00e9tica computacional y arquitectura digital. Nacido en Checoslovaquia, creci\u00f3 en Chile tras el exilio de su familia en 1939. Obtuvo su t\u00edtulo de Ingenier\u00eda El\u00e9ctrica en la Universidad de Chile (1965), una maestr\u00eda en la Universidad de California en Berkeley (1966) y un doctorado en la Universidad de Stanford (1974). Ocup\u00f3 cargos docentes en la UCLA, la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Catalu\u00f1a \u2014donde fund\u00f3 el Departamento de Arquitectura de Computadoras\u2014 y la Universidad de California, Irvine.<\/p>\n

Su investigaci\u00f3n se centr\u00f3 en procesadores y multiprocesadores num\u00e9ricos de alta velocidad y bajo consumo, y fue autor de varios libros de texto influyentes y numerosas publicaciones acad\u00e9micas. Lang es recordado como un acad\u00e9mico riguroso y de principios, cuyo legado perdura en la comunidad inform\u00e1tica internacional.<\/p>\n
