Arriving to Valdivia<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you come from Santiago, In order to arrive to Valdivia<\/strong>, one has several options:<\/p>\n

By plane from Santiago<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can take a plane at Santiago (SCL) Airport<\/strong><\/a> to Valdivia Pichoy Airport<\/strong><\/a>. This is a small airport with two current companies flying to Valdivia every day. Here there are several options.<\/p>\n

From Pichoy Airport<\/strong><\/a> to Valdivia<\/strong>, take any common transportation (Transfer<\/strong>). Prices are between 3000 and 5000 CLP (5-8 USD), and the duration of the ride is about 30-40 mins.<\/p>\n

By bus from Santiago (cheapest)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Take a bus company at\u00a0Terminal de buses Santiago<\/a>, usually buses depart by night and arrive early in the morning. \u00a0Prices are between 13.000 CLP and 24000 CLP depending on the commodities.<\/p>\n

Currencies<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chilean national currency is Chilean Peso (CLP).<\/strong> As of September 5 2016,\u00a0\u00a01UDS =\u00a0671.38 CLP<\/strong>, and 1EUR =\u00a0750.39 CLP<\/strong>. Please check the actual value of currencies at these addresses:<\/p>\n

USD to CLP<\/a>, <\/strong>and\u00a0EUR to CLP<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Usually USD or EUR are accepted in hotels or important commerce. If you come from abroad and pay with international cash (USD or EUR) you can avoid paying standard transaction taxes. However, the vast majority of the country’s commerce only accept CLP or debit\/credit cards.<\/p>\n

Customs \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chilean customs are known to be very restrictive; please do not bring to Chile any food or organic material<\/strong> unless you have experience and already know how to pass it through customs;\u00a0otherwise it could be requested by Chilean authorities.<\/p>\n

Visiting<\/strong><\/p>\n

Starting from Valdivia to south, one can visit different places: the most well-known are the Llanquihue Lake<\/a> and Osorno Volcano<\/a>, among many other small places. After three hours by bus from Valdivia, one reaches the end of “continental Chile”:<\/p>\n

Starting from Puerto Montt<\/strong> the traditional road is over \u00a0and one has essentially two options: either west (Chiloe Island<\/a>, with beautiful traditional towns) \u00a0or the east, starting point\u00a0of the (in)famous Carretera Austral<\/a>.
