They open a window into the life cycles of stars and the dynamic environments shaping their evolution.<em><\/p>\n<p><\/em>This series of lectures and hands-on activities introduces the complex processes of stellar and binary evolution, along with dynamical interactions in star clusters, which serve as key formation channels for binary black holes (BBHs). After a theoretical overview, we will present the population synthesis code SEVN and the direct N-body code PeTar, two advanced software tools widely used to study BBH formation pathways.<em><\/p>\n<p><\/em> Through hands-on activities, participants will use SEVN to simulate stellar and binary evolution and PeTar to model star cluster dynamics. By analysing the simulation data, students will identify BBHs and merging BBHs, the progenitors of gravitational wave signals. We will discuss how different formation channels and astrophysical parameters\u2014such as metallicity, initial mass distributions, and cluster dynamics\u2014affect BBH properties and influence BBH formation, as well as the astrophysical significance of gravitational waves.<em><\/p>\n<div class=\"su-divider su-divider-style-default\" style=\"margin:15px 0;border-width:3px;border-color:#DC2A2A\"><a href=\"#\" style=\"color:#999999\">Go to top<\/a><\/div>\n<h3 id=\"ringdown\"> Black Hole Perturbation Theory &#8211; Tidal Deformation and Ringdown <\/h3>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/eventos.cmm.uchile.cl\/waves2024\/speakers#hui\">Lam Hui<\/a><\/h4>\n<p><\/em>In this series of lectures we will go over the basics of black hole perturbation theory, and explore two applications: tidal deformation and ring-down.
